Eaton Char-Lynn Motor – Piston Aero Motor: Structural Features
The Eaton Char-lynn Motor describes a piston aeromotor, which is a reciprocating internal combustion motor that provides aircraft flight power. A 4-stroke, gasoline motor ignited with a spark plug. The crankshaft rotates two times, and each piston reciprocates four times in the cylinder to complete one cycle. Each movement of the piston is called “one stroke”. The four strokes are in turn, intake, compression, expansion, and exhaust. It is mainly composed of crankshaft, connecting rod, piston, cylinder, gas distribution mechanism and casing. Some motors have a reducer at the front to reduce the speed of the output shaft. Most motors have a supercharger at the rear of the casing to improve motor altitude. Piston aero motors are multi-cylinder motors with a minimum of 4 cylinders and more than 28 cylinders. According to the cylinder cooling method, it is divided into two types: liquid-cooled motor and air-cooled motor.
